Healthy Smoothies

Healthy smoothies are easiest thing you could add to your morning routine to start feeling better and looking better immediately! I drink a simply healthy smoothie every day. I find that it's easier to make smoothies than juice every day. Although there are many wonderful health benefits with juicing, with smoothies you have no messy pulp left behind to clean up and you get all the wonderfully nutritious fiber from the fruits and veggies. I alternate between smoothies and juices. Try having a green smoothie each morning for a week and see how you feel. After my first week of drinking them, I started to lose weight, my face started to glow (literally), and I had more energy throughout the day! You can gradually increase the amount of greens you add as you become more use to the taste.

A good blender is really essential so it tastes right. I was fortunate to receive a Vitamix for Christmas last year. It is amazing! I use it every day for everything from salad dressings to soups, and of course my simply healthy smoothies! I realize that not everybody can afford a Vitamix, but just get the best quality blender you can afford. I know that Breville and Kitchen Aid also make pretty good ones at more affordable prices.

This recipe is so delicious you will want to make it every day for breakfast! I do!

Simply Healthy Smoothie

Ingredients: Use organic ingredients whenever possible!

Liquid options (Choose 1)

  • (Thinner) 1 1/2 cups water (filtered or Coconut water)
  • (Creamier) 1 1/2 cups milk (almond, hemp, coconut, rice, etc.)
  • (My Favorite) 1 cup coconut water, 1/2 cup aloe vera juice
  • Vegetables

  • 2-3 cups organic spinach or 3-4 Pieces of Kale (removed from stems)
  • 1 cucumber (peeled if not organic)
  • Fruits

  • 1 apple or 1 pear (cored and sliced)
  • 1/2 ripe banana (I like to peel them when very ripe and keep them in the freezer.)
  • 1/2 cup of green seedless grapes or frozen mango (optional)
  • Herbs

  • 1/4 bunch of fresh organic parsley or cilantro
  • 1-2 fresh mint leaves (optional)
  • 4-5 Cubes of ice
  • Directions:

    1. Wash and cut up the vegetables, fruits and herbs. Place the liquids and vegetables in the blender. (They should take up most of the space in the blender).
    2. Blend on medium for a few seconds. This will make room for the fruit.
    3. Then, add the fruit and herbs. Blend on high for about 1 min. Add the ice and blend for another 30 seconds.
    4. Pour into a glass or mason jar and enjoy! Be prepared to have endless energy for hours!
    5. * Smoothies should last up to 2 days if sealed tightly in mason jars. You can substitute many of the fruits and vegetables for your favorites or those that are in season. I sometimes use romaine lettuce and/or dandelion greens instead of the spinach or kale. The most important thing to remember is to include both soluble and insoluble fiber. That's what makes the smoothie really smooth and prevents it from separating!
