Treat Fibromyalgia Naturally
What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a chronic musculoskeletal disorder that is characterized by widespread pain. The diagnosis of FMS is based on finding tender points and a history of chronic widespread pain. It is difficult to diagnose because there are no tests with biological markers to confirm the diagnosis. Doctors usually rule out several other serious diseases like lupus. This results in many patients not being diagnosed for years or often misdiagnosed with depression. The cause of FMS is still unknown.
According to WbMD, “Investigators are constantly looking at various explanations for the occurrence of fibromyalgia. Some, for example, are exploring hormonal disturbances and chemical imbalances that affect nerve signaling. Other experts believe fibromyalgia may be linked to stress, illness, or trauma.” Most researchers believe fibromyalgia results from a combination of many physical and emotional stressors. Some have speculated that lower levels of serotonin leads to an increased sensitivity to pain.
If you’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, as I have, you know how frustrating and painful this mysterious disease can be! We are not alone! Nearly 12 million people have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. While FMS is a disease that affects mostly woman, the number of men and children being diagnosed has increased. Having fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) can cause many debilitating symptoms, such as:

I have gone through many trials and errors on my quest to live a pain free life with optimal health.
Technically, there is no cure for fibromyalgia. While this may be true, I have certainly discovered solutions that have helped me: reduce my pain, get my energy back, sleep soundly every night, and live a healthy, happy life without the need for prescription drugs!
I chose a holistic approach to treat fibromyalgia by bringing balance to my mind, body, spirit. I started by making changes to my diet and adding natural supplements. All of the recipes on this site are conducive to a fibromyalgia diet. Then, I focused on reducing stress and calming my mind so I was better equipped to handle the challenges that come with FMS.
What Do You Have to Lose?
I cannot guarantee that following these tips or food guidelines will eliminate your need for prescription drugs or take away all of your pain, but hopefully you can at least lower your dose. This is because everyone is different. What worked for me, may not work for you.
I do not believe that prescription drugs are the answer! They certainly don’t cure fibromyalgia or any other disease for that matter! That’s why there’s NO CURE. They only mask the symptoms and sometimes cause even more symptoms!
When I used to take Lyrica, I had many dizzy spells, weight gain and swelling in my feet. I can’t even begin to tell you how horrible my experiences were with Ambien! My symptoms without these prescriptions were already bad enough, why would I want to add more? For me, the benefits DID NOT outweigh the risks! I made the decision to stop taking prescription drugs and instead focus on ways to treat the symptoms of FMS naturally! It took me years to find the right combination of diet, supplements and stress-reduction techniques. But, I have finally found a mix that works for me.
It is important to find the right combination that works for YOU! I recommend seeing a naturopathic or functional medicine doctor to determine which nutritional supplements are right for you and that your body needs!

I would not say that I have cured my fibromyalgia 100%. I still have bad days, or “flare-ups” as those with FMS call them. But, these days are few and far between. It usually happens when I allow myself to get overly stressed, am not active, or eat unhealthy for an extended period of time (usually when traveling for work). But, I don’t allow myself to fall back into destructive habits or let the pain have power over me anymore! I get right back on track and follow the guidelines that I know work!
I will share all of these guidelines for treating fibromyalgia naturally with you on this site. I sincerely hope that these tips help you feel better and you can return to living a healthy, vibrant life!
I am not a doctor. I highly recommend that you get the proper diagnosis from your doctor and discuss treatment options before making any of the changes I recommend on this site.
